Junius Johnson

Junius Johnson, PhD
Research Fellow

Junius entered upon graduate study with the express purpose of joining the conversation concerning the role that Christian theology and belief have to play in the ongoing development of human knowledge. His conviction that theology is not primarily an academic discourse, but rather the worship of God with one’s mind had a profound effect on his development. He found that the task of working at this vital intersection was a question of being alongside the Academy in a way that was collegial and service-oriented without losing the ability to be critical of fundamental commitments and assumptions.

Junius is currently a full-time lecturer at the Yale Divinity School, where he teaches Latin and Systematic Theology. His research interests concern the clarification of contemporary theological discourse (especially in the areas of sacraments, Christology, and Trinitarian Theology) and the development of more robust philosophical tools for the articulation of classical theological doctrines.

Junius also works closely with Divinity students on conceiving and developing the type of presence in the Academy and the parish that will reflect winsomely and faithfully the Christian message.

In addition to his scholarly work, Junius is an aspiring novelist and a professional musician.
